Lieutenant Spencer Caruana was sworn in as a full-time Lieutenant with the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department on December 27, 2022.
Spencer began his fire service career by joining the North Park Fire Department in 2009, where he proudly served as a firefighter for seven years. In 2014, he was hired by the Chicago Rockford International Airport as an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Firefighter. His dedication and leadership led to his promotion to Captain of the Training Division in 2020.
Spencer has been a licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) since 2011 and holds numerous Illinois fire service certifications, including Fire Officer I, Advanced Technician Firefighter, Instructor I, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Vehicle Machinery Operations, along with several additional specialized certifications.
At the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department, Spencer also plays an active role in the department's recruitment efforts, helping attract and mentor the next generation of firefighters.
Outside of the fire service, Spencer is an Illinois Certified Home Inspector and enjoys spending his free time as an avid waterfowl hunter.
Spencer married his wife, Tara, in June 2022. Fire service runs in the family, as his brother is also a career firefighter with the City of Galesburg Fire Department in Galesburg, Illinois.
