John Donahue was first appointed to the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District Board of Trustees in 2011. He served as the Board Secretary until 2026, when he was elected Treasurer.
John dedicated more than 45 years to the drinking water industry before retiring in 2020 as Chief Executive Officer of the North Park Public Water District. Throughout his distinguished career, he was a strong advocate for the water industry, providing training and mentorship to emerging water professionals across the country while working to advance public policy on drinking water issues at both the state and federal levels.
A recognized leader in his profession, John testified before the United States Congress on two occasions regarding initiatives to improve drinking water for public water customers. He also served as President of the American Water Works Association during 2014–2015, representing water professionals and helping shape the future of the industry.
John's passion for public service began in 1978 when he became a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Emergency Rescue Technician. He volunteered with the Plainfield Fire Protection District in Plainfield, Illinois, for approximately 10 years, gaining firsthand experience in emergency response and developing a lifelong appreciation for the fire service.
John and his wife, Debbie, have been married for nearly 45 years and reside in Harlem Township.
