The Harlem-Roscoe Firemen’s Association was created when the district was formed in 1940 and officially acquired not-for-profit status on January 22, 1960.
The early Association used fundraising to purchase fire trucks and equipment. As the tax base increased over the years, the department was able to cover those costs. The firefighters continue to have Association breakfast meetings on the second Sunday of the month and each fundraising event is now earmarked for a specific purpose.
Yearly events the Association hosts or participates in include: Our Spring Dinner, Mud Vollebyall, Golf Play Day, Roscoe Fall Festival, Senior Turkey Dinner, and the Family Christmas Drive.
October of 1966 the firefighter’s wives organized a Harlem-Roscoe Fire Ladies Auxiliary. Firefighters’ wives and mothers were eligible to join. Today the fire personnel’s spouses and significant others keep in touch through social media. They continue to help with fundraisers and community events as well as the department family picnic and kids’ Christmas party.
The Association held fundraisers as early as 1945, the firefighters held dances and chicken and ham dinners at the Roscoe Town Hall. Other fundraisers throughout the years have been selling flowers, car washes, garage sales, bake sales, breakfasts, benefit dinners, donkey basketball games, haunted hay rides, dances, Fireman's Ball and many dinners.
