Joe Koeninger

Lieutenant Joe Koeninger joined the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department in December 2005, becoming a second-generation firefighter. He earned his Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) certification in June 2007 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in December 2023.

In addition to his responsibilities as a full-time firefighter, Joe plays an important role within the department's Maintenance Division, assisting with the maintenance and repair of the department's apparatus. He also oversees the inspection, maintenance, and readiness of the department's firefighting equipment, helping ensure personnel have reliable equipment for emergency responses.

Joe holds numerous Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal certifications, including Fire Apparatus Engineer, Firefighter II, Advanced Technician Firefighter, Rope Operations, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Service Vehicle Operator, Vehicle and Machinery Operations, and Instructor I.

Outside of the department, Joe enjoys spending time with his two children, Madilyn and Lincoln. During the summer months, he works on the ambulance crew at Blackhawk Farms Raceway and serves as the Chief of Safety and Rescue for the Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs (MCSCC), overseeing emergency response and safety operations during racing events.
