Lieutenant Justin Harwood joined the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department in April 2011 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on May 22, 2023.
Justin grew up in McHenry County, where he was introduced to the fire service at an early age. His father served as a firefighter with the Crystal Lake Fire Department before later joining the Elgin Fire Department, and his older brother, David Harwood, serves as a Battalion Chief with the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.
Justin began his fire service career with the North Park Fire Department and the Northwest Fire Protection District, where he served for two years. After moving to Roscoe in 2010, he joined the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department and proudly served as a paid-on-call firefighter before being hired as a full-time Contract Firefighter/EMT.
Since becoming an EMT in 2009, Justin has earned numerous Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal certifications, including Company Fire Officer, Advanced Technician Firefighter, Rope Operations, Hazardous Materials Operations, Instructor I, and Vehicle Machinery Operations. He currently oversees the department's radio operations, helping ensure reliable communications for emergency responses and daily operations.
Outside of the department, Justin enjoys working out at the gym, listening to and playing music, collecting vinyl records and comic books, and spending time with his family. He is the proud father of two children: Cameron, who enjoys playing basketball and soccer, and Olivia, who is preparing to begin college after her senior year of high school.
